February Music 2017

I’m taking a break from my Political Crescendo series to talk about new music I encountered last month. As much as this blog is about helping you readers listen to new music, it’s also my job to continue to expose myself to new tunes as well. Not all these songs are new releases, but they are songs that are new to me. Hopefully you hear something new too.

Image result for LightbulbLitty by Meek Mills (Explicit Content) – I am not a Meek Mills fan but this song is an absolute BANGER. When the base first comes in my body automatically starts bobbing up and down. I first heard this song at a volleyball party and the first thing I did when that base dropped was holler out “WHAT SONG IS THIS!?” Add this song to your weekend party playlist A.S.A.P.!

Young & Wild by The Strumbellas
– I have never heard of the Strumbellas until this song. It’s such a feel good, happy-go-lucky song. I downloaded their album HOPE, and so far I’m feelin’ it.

Fire by Bruce Springsteen
– You may have heard the original 1970 version of this song by the Pointer Sisters (you’ve heard their song I’m so Excited), but do you know this cover? My friend Rob (I should mention that Rob is a former Guelph Griffons football player and even he likes this love song) introduced me to the cover. I love a lil’ Bruce, but after hearing this cover I fell in love even more.

Shape of You by Ed Sheeran – Holy smokes, after a mini hiatus Ed Sheeran has released a new album called ÷ and Ed fans are absolutely losing it. The first song to drop, Shape of You is so catchy and has familiar classic acoustic-y, sing-rap vibe that has become a staple in his songs.

Broccoli by Big Baby D.R.A.M Feat. Lil’ Yachty (Explicit Content) – Let me start by saying that the lyrics to this song are not very good, but man that beat. The deep base combined with the light piano riff is such an unusual combination but it works so well in this song.
The base reminds me of being at a stoplight next to a low riding, dark windowed Honda or Nissan with a spoiler and all you can hear is base (please leave a comment if you understand this).

*Both by Gucci Mane Feat. Drake – Yes, if you know me you know that I am a huge Drake fan. So, when I encountered this Drake tune I had to download it (that’s the only reasoning behind why this song made the list).
